The Goal

Film Hub tasked us with the pleasure of redesigning their existing website. The brief was to improve the aesthetic of the current site, simplify what they felt was a cluttered and confusing website and to really push the brand. Who Film Hub are and what they do. The lovely Sara from Film Hub summed it up perfectly in our first meeting: More Films. More People. More places.

We wasted no time in starting to plan out next steps, quickly establishing areas where the user experience could be improved through a restructure of the sitemap, focus points in the UI and filtering options to improve the accessibility of events and projects.

With pain points established and proposed solutions to each drawn up designing the solution could begin. The aesthetic of the current site didn’t reflect the brand or the ethos of Film Hub so a strong, bold, modern yet accessible UI was considered.

Get Your Popcorn

The calm and dark feel of the pages coupled with a simple typographical style allows bold, cinematic imagery to shine. The initial visual the user is presented with hints at being in the cinema. The hero area is the screen. You are an audience member sitting back and ready to absorb the fantastic content Film Hub are about to present to you.

The Main Event

Now showing showcases the different events Film Hub organise and are involved in. Each event has been made into visual tiles with key information showcased without having to click through. We chose to offset the tiles to break up the monotony of a boxed layout and colour coded to visually group them.

Unlike the cinema, Film Hub encourage you to use your phone. The mobile experience is designed to give you complete access to the site by tailoring all content and UI to handheld devices to make it easy to find out more of what’s on the big screen on your small screen.
